1. The Vallarta Orchid
Society
is participating in 1% for Orchid Conservation
The
Vallarta
Orchid
Society is a loosely formed organization of Puerto Vallarta,
Mexico
residents and visitors who have a common love of orchids.
We have monthly meetings where we discuss various aspects of
orchid
culture. Occasionally, we take day trips into the nearby
hills to
rescue orchids that have fallen from trees.
The
Oregon Orchid Society is participating in 1% for Orchid
Conservation
For over 65
years the Oregon Orchid Society has represented the Portland and
Vancouver area with a strong tradition of celebrating the
propagation and conservation of the orchid, nature's most
diverse and largest plant family. We are made up of a wide
spectrum of enthusiastic orchid hobbyists, judges and vendors. For over
half a century we have been providing the Portland
area and the greater Northwest with quality speakers,
educational materials and fantastic orchid shows. We have
formally published three books that are used across the country and our
annual spring show is the largest orchid event in the Pacific
Northwest.

2.
The International Flower Essence Repertoire
joins
The
International Flower Essence Repertoire is based in the Inner Hebrides
in Scotland, and has been importing and selling flower essences for
the past 14 years. In the past 11 years they have been producing their
own line of "flower essences" made with orchids they grow in a
greenhouse on their premises. It is their manufacturing
of the Living Tree Orchid Essences which brings about their involvement
with the OCC and 1% FOC. It should be noted that
their method of making orchid "essences" does not involve the
cutting or harming of any orchids

3.
Two non-profit
conservation
organizations participate
The Gurukula
Botanical Sanctuary is a forest garden in the Western Ghat
mountains of Kerala, India, dedicated to conservation and education.
Founded in 1981, the Sanctuary is a garden of wild plant species grown
at the edge of a large rainforest reserve. Our central intention is to
restore endangered species and habitats in a highly fragmented
landscape, in which only a fraction of original forest remains and much
of the native flora is extracted for human use.
Asociación de Productores de Orquideas de El
Valle y Cabuya (Association of Orchid Producers in El Valle
and Cabuya)
APROVACA is a non-profitable organization dedicated to the conservation
of native species of orchids in the charming little town of Panama, El
Valle de Antón. It was established on May 15, 2001 with the
goal of
protecting endangered endemic species of orchids and thus contributing
to the conservation of the amazing biodiversity of the region and the
Republic of Panama.

4. Arachnorchis (Caladenia) pumila - Back from Extinction
The plant is Arachnorchis
pumila (syn. Caladenia
pumila) and it has been rediscovered by a Victorian couple
in the south west of the state. Read
Alan Stephenson's full story and see a spetacular picture of this
rediscovered orchid thought to be extinct.

5. The
Orchid
Conservation Alliance's
latest newsletter
In the time
since I wrote the August newsletter* lots of things have happened at
the Orchid
Conservation Alliance. Probably the biggest was that fifteen of us
spent two weeks in Ecuador visiting
some reserves and seeing lots of orchids in the wild. This was the
third in what has become an
approximately annual “Orchids in the Wild” trip sponsored by, and to
benefit, the OCA. Click here for pdf of OCA Newsletter.
