Society

Chicagoland
The IOS
mission is to
1)educate the general public with botanical and horticultural
orchid information, 2) encourage the improvement of
orchids cultivation, propagation, hybridization and
exhibition, 3) aid concerned groups and agencies to improve
orchid species conservation in their natural habitat and in
cultivation, 4) and promote the growth and exhibition of
orchids. ISO currently has members from 7 states,
(9 if
you include commercial members). Membership is over 300

The Orchid Growers' Guild, Inc. (OGG) is dedicated
to
the education of OGG members and the public about orchids and
their culture. OGG also promotes the conservation and
appreciation of orchids. The OGG has about 50

The Portland Orchid Society was established in June 2007 by a group
of local orchid enthusiasts with the goal of creating an orchid
society that is fun, friendly, community minded and welcoming to
all. The Portland Orchid Society is a non-profit 501(c)3
corporation for the preservation of and education about orchids by
extension of knowledge concerning the ecology, conservation,
preservation, science, cultivation, hybridization, appreciation and
uses of orchids. Also, we carry on activities as may be necessary

2. Jardin
Botanico Las Orquideas

The Orchid and Botanical Garden of the Ecuadorian Amazon is the
fruit of an idea that began in Puyo in 1980. Here you can discover
orchids in their natural setting, in a small restored forest in the
upper Amazon basin. This reserve is a site of scientific inquiry
thanks to the work of its owner, Señor Omar Tello. The reserve,
former pasture land that was restored by hand through amidst
decades of deforestation, hosts a variety of Andean orchids
salvaged from fallen forests of the local region.

Arachnorchis
(Caladenia)
rosella
There are only about 140 known Arachnorchis (Caladenia) rosella in
the wild. Local residents, the Dunmoochin Foundation and the Trust
for
Nature have expressed interest in purchasing one of
the
habitats that is threatened with development. Read the full story

4. Orchid Conservation Speakers
There are currently three experts available to speak at orchid
society meetings: Jean Stefanik, Dr. Peter Tobias, and Dr Andy

The speakers page gives a short discription of the presentation and
a short biography added for each expert.
The OCC has started a new web page to connect orchid societies to
orchid conservation speakers. If you give presentations on orchid
conservation and want to be included on the speaker page please
contact the administrator.
